Internet service provider Nayatel has announced a significant slowdown in its internet services across Pakistan. The issue stems from an outage affecting one of the company’s two upstream providers, which has disrupted a large portion of internet traffic nationwide.
In a public statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Nayatel acknowledged the disruption, explaining, "We are experiencing a nationwide internet slowdown due to an outage in one of our two upstream providers. This issue is impacting a major part of internet traffic across Pakistan."
The company assured its users that steps are being taken to address the situation. "Our teams are actively monitoring the situation and working closely with provider", the message added.
Broader Internet Challenges in Pakistan
Nayatel’s service reduction comes amidst a broader issue of sluggish internet speeds in Pakistan. Over the past several days, users across the country have reported persistent connectivity problems. Last week, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja spoke publicly about the challenges, emphasizing that the government is working to resolve the issues as soon as possible.
Speaking to a local media channel, Khawaja stated that the government is "actively engaged with PTCL and international partners" to address the disruptions. She reassured the public that efforts are underway to restore normal internet speeds, noting the government’s commitment to collaborating with both domestic and global technology partners.
As Nayatel works to resolve its upstream outage, it remains unclear how long users will experience reduced internet speeds. Customers impacted by the outage are advised to stay updated through the company’s official channels. Meanwhile, the government’s ongoing efforts to address nationwide connectivity issues provide some hope for long-term improvements.
